How Can My Facelift Scars Be Improved?
Q: Dr. Eppley, Hello I had a facelift over a year ago with a neck lift. I have been getting injections on my scars but they still haven’t helped. Is there anyway I can get some information on possibly getting treated?
A:These are significant hypertrophic scars for which injections are not going to be effective. The only effective approach is to cut out the scars, re-elevate the facelift skin flaps, and do an extended SMAS or deep plane lift/support. This is the way you keep all the tension off the closure line and then they will heal without the hypertrophy and pixie ear deformities that you have. There is no ‘little’ way to fix this problem. While the injections have not been harmful they are just buying time to get to what really needs to be done and at one year postop that can now been done at any time.
