Can I Get Head Width Reduction At The Same Time As A Back Of The Head Skull Implant?

Q: Dr. Eppley, I have a flat (and somewhat asymmetrical) back of the head since infancy. I would like a custom implant to correct this. I would also be interested in procedures to reduce the width of my head if possible.

A: The back of the head can certainly be augmented with a custom skull implant. While the sides of the head can be reduced that requires vertical scalp incisions along the posterior temporal line. Thus the options are:

#1 Custom Back of Head Skull Implant placed through the traditional low horizontal scalp incision with NO side of the head reduction

#2 #1 with Bilateral Side Of The Head Reduction done through paired vertical scalp incisions. (no horizontal scalp incision needed)
