Can I Do Boxing After A Sliding Genioplasty?
Q: Dr. Eppley, Can someone do MMA, boxing etc. after a sliding genioplasty? Is it strong enough to withstand those forces – or is it more susceptible to fracturing? Or is it relative to how much the bone was moved? i.e. 8 to 10 mm would be weaker long-term and a 4 to 6 mm movement would be stronger long-term?
Thank you for the insight!
A: When it is fully healed it will have the force resistance just like normal bone. The amount of advancement will influence how long it takes to reach the fully healed (bone consolidation) status.
