Can Hydroxyapatite Cement Be Used For Skull Augmentation?
Q: Dr. Eppley, Would hydroxypatite implants be an option for skull implants?
A: Unless it is a very small area that is located on the bony skull (not the sides) in which a long scalp scar can be used to access it….no. While hydroxyapatite is biologically appealing it is a poor aesthetic augmentation material whether it is the face or the skull. It simply doesn’t have the proper handling and shape characteristics to effectively use.
