Can Hydroxyapatite Be Used For Orbital Rim Augmentation?
Q: Dr. Eppley, Is it possible to add bone to the orbital rim, with something like hydroxyapatite? I’m talking about the upper orbital rim, rather than something like infraorbital rim implants.
A: Hydroxapatite, a synthetic ceramic material and not bone, can certainly be added to the brow bones or superior orbital rims…but it would require a full coronal scalp incision to do so. This is why brow bone implants, which can be done through a small scalp incision using an endoscopic technique, is usually preferred.
