Can A Chin Implant Be Removed and Replaced By A Sliding Genioplasty During The Same Surgery?

Q: Dr. Eppley, Can I get an existing chin implant removed and genioplasty done in the same procedure? Or do I need to wait in between? My previous surgeon told me I need to wait if I ever want to replace my implant with a different size.

A: Whether you are replacing a chin implant with a different implant or converting it to a sliding genioplasty, those procedures are done at the same time. There is no advantage to making implant removal and its replacement as separate procedures.
